Mattress sizes guide

Many people will try and find ‘bed sizes’ when working out what they can accommodate. There are no standardised dimensions for beds to check against but there are for mattresses. The standard size and dimensions of mattresses differ from country to country. The terminology is also different with certain models only common in certain countries. The Grand King for instance is a very large bed mattress that was created and is only produced by Select Comfort air beds. Similarly the American Olympic by Simmons is a unique size which is effectively an expanded Queen mattress.

Reviewing mattress types and sizes

In the sub pages of this section I have detailed in a chart the common names alongside the actual measurements in imperial (feet and inches) and metric (metres and centimetres) for you to check. I have also added a handy quick link at the bottom so you can print them out and use them as reference when you are checking out the space you will be putting your bed in or when you shop to buy your mattress. If you are getting a memory or foam mattress cut from a roll then these dimensions will help you as a guide to check against. You will sometimes find that certain retailer will have special unique sizes which only fit their own beds such as Ikea. Happy measuring!
